how to duplicate a notion template (step by step)

if you've just purchased a notion template and you're staring at a link with absolutely no idea what to do next β€” this post is for you. πŸ˜…

duplicating a notion template is honestly much easier than it sounds, and once you've done it once you'll never need to look it up again. here's exactly how to do it. πŸ’…

what does 'duplicate' mean in notion?

when you buy or download a notion template, you're given a link to a shared notion page. this page lives in the creator's workspace β€” not yours. duplicating it is how you make your own copy that you can actually edit, fill in, and make yours.

think of it like downloading a file. the template is the original β€” duplicating it drops a copy straight into your own notion workspace.

what you'll need

βœ” a notion account (the free plan works perfectly β€” you don't need paid!)
βœ” Β the template link from your purchase (check your email or your shopify order)
βœ” the notion app or notion open in your browser

step-by-step: how to duplicate a notion template

step 1: open the template link

click the link from your order confirmation to download the PDF file. click the purple download now button on the PDF file, this will open a notion page β€” you'll see the full template, but you won't be able to edit anything yet. that's normal.

step 2: make sure you're logged into notion

if you're not already logged in, notion will prompt you to sign in or create an account. the free plan is totally fine for using any of my templates.

step 3: click 'duplicate' in the top right corner

look for the duplicate button in the top right of the page. it looks like two overlapping squares. click it.

πŸ’‘ tip: if you're on mobile, you might need to tap the three dots (...) menu to find the duplicate option.

step 4: choose where to save it

notion will ask which workspace you'd like to save it to. if you only have one account, this will be automatic. if you have multiple workspaces (e.g. a personal one and a work one), just make sure you pick the right one.

step 5: find it in your workspace

once duplicated, the template will appear in your notion sidebar. it usually lands in your private pages section. from here you can move it wherever you like β€” rename it, reorganise it, make it fully yours.

common questions

1. do i need a paid notion plan?

nope! all of my templates are compatible with the free notion plan. you don't need to upgrade anything.

2. i can't see the duplicate button β€” help?

a few things to try:

  • make sure you're logged into notion (the button only shows when you're signed in)
  • try opening the link in a browser rather than the mobile app
  • refresh the page and try again

if you're still stuck, feel free to send me a message and i'll help you sort it outΒ

3. the template appeared but it looks different / blank?

some templates use linked databases or relations that might look empty when you first duplicate them. this is normal β€” they're designed to be filled in by you. if something looks completely broken, reach out and i'll walk you through it.

can i share the template with someone else?

the template link from your purchase is for your personal use. if someone else wants a copy, they'll need to purchase their own β€” this is how creators like me keep the shop running! πŸ’›

you're ready to go

that's genuinely it. click the link, hit duplicate, and you're in. most people find the whole process takes less than two minutes once they know what they're looking for.

if you're brand new to notion and feeling a little overwhelmed, don't stress β€” all of my templates are designed to be beginner-friendly. everything is labelled, there are video walkthroughs available and you don't need any notion experience to use them.
