do you need notion premium for templates? (no, here’s what the free plan covers)

thinking about buying a notion template but not sure whether you’ll need to pay for notion too? 👀 totally fair question, and the answer is simple.

short answer: no, you don’t need notion premium. 💌

every one of my templates works on notion’s free plan. you can sign up for free, duplicate your template and use it as much as you like, with nothing to upgrade and no subscription to remember to cancel. ✨

what the free plan gives you

✔ unlimited pages, so you can build out your template as much as you like
✔ databases, views, filters, relations and formulas, which is what powers most templates
✔ the notion app on desktop, ios and android
✔ the ability to duplicate templates into your own workspace

the one limit worth knowing about

the free plan caps file uploads at 5mb per file. for most people this never comes up, but if you want to upload large images or pdfs into your template, you might hit it. if you do, compress the file first and it’ll almost always fit. 🖼️

there are a couple of other free plan limits (7 days of page history and up to 10 guests), but they’re aimed at teams. if you’re using notion for yourself, you probably won’t notice either. 🌿

do you need notion ai or any paid extras?

nope. my templates don’t rely on notion ai or any paid features, so you can ignore any upgrade prompts you see.

so should you ever upgrade?

only if you outgrow the free plan, for example by sharing a workspace with lots of people or needing longer page history. that’s entirely up to you and has nothing to do with using my templates. 💛
